For over a decade, schools in the “power” (autonomy) conferences have been required to provide four-year scholarships, and in 2024 the NCAA mandated all DI schools do the same.
Schools cannot reduce or cancel scholarships for athletics reasons, including injuries, performance, or roster management decisions – unless a student-athlete decides to transfer.
Plus, those guaranteed scholarships have to be available to those student-athletes for 10 years after they leave college.
