@DrMaryHoward I'll never forget the day I learned to give myself permission to just RESEARCH for a day. Just watch, listen, watch, listen, and watch. Fascinating.
If you haven't had Ss try creating their own anchor charts, do it! @MelanieMeehan1 inspired me so I'm passing it on. POWERFUL, especially after a small group so they can capture their learning for themselves! #G2Great
Q4: It helps me to keep the big skills in mind and continuously group in big buckets. Then I let Ss do the same. I share those big buckets and let them sign up for the topics THEY think they need more instr/prac with. #G2Great
Game changer: Always read a S's piece with a S's voice. Read it with their expression, inflection, emotion, intention. Don't read kid writing as an adult. Read kid writing as the kid who wrote it. It's 1000x more amazing!! #G2Great
A3: Have to go here... Handwriting and conventions and spelling are the lions and tigers and bears of the woods. They matter (and in the woods, they can EAT you!) but...
Writing is a complex process and there is so much beauty in the ideas that can be missed.
#G2Great
Q3: Awesome question. Advice to younger me: LET IT GO. Let go of the control. Embrace the beautiful disasters that are their pieces and folders because it's about process, not product. Writing workshop is my favorite part of the day. #G2Great
A2: Secret truth of mine: I'm not one to revise much (not to say I don't need to!). I empathize with students who struggle to find ways to rethink, reimagine, or improve their own work. Revision needs lots of teaching...for me and Ss! #G2Great
A1: Non-negotiable: helping students see themselves as real writers, actual authors. They create something and it has purpose and value and celebrating them as we celebrate any other author is magical! #G2Great
Q1: BLANK PAPER! scissors, tape, spider legs, sticky notes, colors, infinite options!!! The second we use something to model it, students' minds light up with new possibilities! #G2Great

Thank you all so much! This was such an awesome first Twitter chat. Thank you for your warm welcome and thank you, @MelanieMeehan1 for (literally) throwing me into this! I'll be spending the next month processing all of this... #G2Great
@yvetterp2 @ThoughtfulRead I forget about wordless too! Thanks for the reminder. I always think about decoding and fluency with a side of comp with SR, so thanks for making me rethink! I love it!
A5: The ones where we are literally yelling at the characters or shaking our fists in the air or slapping our foreheads and rolling our eyes because we are just so invested in the characters! <3 #g2great
A4: I use SR to "bless books" that are in a new series or from a new author that I know they'll scarf up afterward. I also let them role play their voices and decide the role/voice they take on as they read to hear their fluency. #g2great
