Churches to parliament: Withdraw amendment bill or put it to referendum

Zimbabweโs nurses will stage a nationwide strike from April 20 to April 22 after rejecting what they describe as inadequate salary adjustments and a failure by the government to address worsening working conditions, according to official notices issued by the Zimbabwe Nurses Association.
The planned strike follows weeks of engagement between the nurses and the Health Service Commission, after an earlier strike scheduled for April 15 to April 17 was withdrawn.
In a subsequent legal notice to their employer, the association said its members had resolved to proceed with a nationwide shutdown after determining that the latest salary review โwas only done as a token and not seriously meant to address the plight of nursesโ .
The dispute centres on pay and the rising cost of living. Nurses argue that their salaries remain โunacceptably low and not commensurate with the cost of living or the demands of the profession.โ
They also cite the governmentโs failure to introduce a cost of living adjustment and to cushion staff against escalating transport costs, which have made it increasingly difficult for many to report for duty putting patients life at risk.
In an earlier communication cancelling the initial strike dates, the association said feedback from members showed that the latest pay cycle did not reflect โa serious intention to improve workersโ salaries,โ despite prior engagements and assurances from the employer. The organisation then issued a fresh notice in terms of the Health Service Act, giving the required notice period before embarking on industrial action.
An internal update to members said the revised dates were chosen to allow better coordination, particularly for nurses in rural areas, while also urging a unified national response. โIsolated demonstrations are not as effective as a nationwide act,โ the association said, calling on hospital and provincial leaders to mobilise staff across all districts.
The strike is expected to affect public health services across Zimbabwe, although the association indicated that staff in intensive and critical care units would not abandon patients, signalling an attempt to maintain emergency services during the industrial action.
Today it is Emmanuel Sitima, a few days ago it was @DougColtart being subjected to violence.
Until when?
How long shall we allow the abuse to continue?
We have to take a bold stand against the regime or you and I will be next.

๐ธHonourable Minister @MthuliNcube01,
There you go again singing for your supper and government post.
The truth of the matter is that youโre totally unelectable. Despite pouring colossal amounts of money (source unknown) into your election campaign for a seat in Bulawayo, you lost dismally. Selectorate politics was your only lifeline back onto Govt.
Only losers who know they cannot win a free and fair election would support an amendment to the Constitution that takes away the right to vote and creates an imperial presidency. Nonsense upon stilts.

The Network of African National Human Rights Institutions (NANHRI) has raised alarm over what it describes as a threat to constitutional order and institutional independence in Zimbabwe following the reassignment of Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission chairperson Fungayi Jessie Majome.
In a statement released on Monday, NANHRI said the executive decision to move Majome from the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission to the Public Service Commission sets a dangerous precedent and undermines the rule of law.
The regional body noted that the development came days after the Commission issued a report on public hearings for Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, in which it documented harassment, intimidation and, in some cases, physical attacks against individuals expressing dissenting views, as well as restrictions on access to hearing venues.

Today in Budiriro we saw the celebration of new boreholes being put in that township. As a nation, it is worrying that we are now considering boreholes in the city as progress when our aim should be to pipe treated water into every home from Kunzvi and other dams that our government is investing in building.
The celebration of boreholes in the city is the celebration of the ruralification of our cities. We need people who promote Zimbabwe to also be able to speak truth to power by saying that lowering our city standards to using borehole water is admitting defeat.
Lastly, the continuous use of underground water leads to the depletion of aquifers that cannot recharge at the rate of borehole extraction. This in future will create a very dire crisis for us. Our government needs to begin investing in replacing pipes and installing new pipes in our cities to pipe water into every home in Zimbabwe.

This is the water meter reading that was left by the colonial system in every household in many towns and cities of Zimbabwe. 50 years down the line we gather people to celebrate commissioning of boreholes in Mufakose Harare. Are we moving with time or we are going backwards?
THE TRUTH SPEAKS LAST.. Sometimes clarity only comes after you step away. Walking away from CCC wasnโt easy, but it was necessary. Iโm grateful to the Lord for His steady, faithful guidance through it all and every step of the way. It was the right decision, no regrets. Victoria Falls is experiencing the largest volume of water in 70 years right now.
On the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia (with 75% of the best views only visible from Zimbabwe), the falls are the largest curtain of falling water in the world.
