🇱🇾 ON THIS DAY: THE LION OF THE DESERT WAS MARTYRED

On September 16, 1931, Libya’s legendary resistance leader Sheikh Omar al-Mukhtar was executed by Italy’s fascist occupation.

The 73-year-old Qur’an teacher and Islamic scholar had spent around two decades leading Libyan resistance fighters against a vastly better-equipped Italian army.

Under Benito Mussolini, Italy responded with horrific brutality, deporting around 100,000 Libyans from resistance strongholds to concentration camps, where thousands died.

But Omar al-Mukhtar refused to surrender.

Captured in battle in September 1931, he was subjected to a sham trial and hanged in front of thousands of Libyans.

Nearly a century later, the “Lion of the Desert” remains an inspiration to Muslims around the world and a symbol of faith, courage and resistance to colonial occupation.

His famous words live on:

“We will not surrender. We will win or we will die.”

May Allah have mercy on Sheikh Omar al-Mukhtar and grant him Jannatul Firdaws. Ameen.

There's no way AQ did 9/11 without inside help.
