For me, one way to avoid burnout is to try to look at my interests differently.
For example, I might make a tiny cash machine out of foam for my first mold-infected room diorama.

I wanted to create something resembling a human figure - or at least something that tries to resemble one - grown entirely from a mass of mold. I started with a very simple silhouette of a figure holding a serving tray and slowly refined the sketch from there.
Sometimes I don't know how to draw a certain thing. For example, a Radio Tower!
To get the design right, I do a few quick studies, modify the shape to my needs, and put it where it much needed.
