Yvette Cooper’s borders announcement today is a betrayal of everyone who voted for change.
Ten days since racists attacked asylum seekers & mosques & today Labour announce they’re ramping up the failed narrative that we can just get rid of the people we don’t want here. #r4today
No shit. This is why we boycott things funded by the fossil fuel industry. It’s all about them using dirty money to gain influence and set the agenda. Much like allowing poachers to sponsor the “gamekeeper’s conference”
Hundreds of people turned out in #Stroud today to show solidarity and reject the racism, fascism and thuggery that has shaken England.
I was honoured to join community leaders, organisers, and our MP @SimonforStroud
I was incredibly proud to see the people of Bristol come out last night to say that racism and hatred aren't welcome in our city.
I know that the violence we've seen in recent days has made many members of our community, particularly Muslims, people of colour and those seeking asylum, feel fearful and unsafe.
Last night's scenes of peace and unity are a much needed reminder that the vast majority of us care about our communities, and abhor everything that the far-right stand for.
The people of Bristol have shown real leadership, and I hope the Government will follow suit. The Prime Minister should make it a priority to agree a strategy to counter islamophobia at all levels in society and online, as well as putting real new investment in supporting community cohesion.
People moaning on here about the new plastic bottle tops (that are connected to the bottle) being woke or forced on them by the EU are big entitled idiot babies.
Here's why it matters:
Rachel Reeves is planning to announce more cuts to public investment.
A huge blow to the people who voted Labour hoping for change.
Green MPs will fight against more austerity every step of the way.
As @TheGreenParty and I warned repeatedly during the election campaign, Labour’s manifesto inevitably resulted in real terms spending cuts.
But today, Labour will announce it’s going to be *even worse*.
@SimonforStroud @StroudDC Earlier this year, I warned about the Conservative government kicking this into the long grass: https://t.co/JNBHThjyyh
It will be sadder still if the new Labour government scraps it completely.
These are exactly the types of projects Greens have long said should replace HS2.
Bad news coming for Stroud and Stonehouse, who are still waiting for government decision on plans for a direct train link to Bristol. Despite long term, cross-party consensus that we need this link, it looks like the government are planning to axe funding altogether.
🌿 @TheGreenParty has proudly backed the Climate & Nature Bill since @CarolineLucas proposed the first version in 2020.
🐝 Ellie, Adrian, Siân and I will make enacting the #CANBill a top priority in Parliament—a message we delivered with @zerohour_uk to @Keir_Starmer this week.
The lack of courage from the PM on Leveson 2 is grim.
“Labour and News UK have declined to comment on claims that he reached an understanding before the election with the Murdoch family’s News UK, owner of the Times and the Sun” https://t.co/ORO2y3tMIT
Looks like Labour could abandon its promise to do #Leveson inquiry part 2
The phone hacking & press criminality scandals had devastating consequences for their victims. They deserve justice. We all deserve media reform. Join me & @HackedOffHugh in holding the Govt to account 👇
.@TheGreenParty MPs @AdrianRamsay, @EllieChowns, @sianberry and I have written to @RachelReevesMP ahead of her statement to the Commons regarding the public finances.
We urge the Chancellor to take the bold action necessary to restore public services and support households with the transition to a green economy - while ensuring people on low incomes are not asked to pay more.
That means equalising Capital Gains Tax with Income Tax, removing the upper earnings limit on National Insurance, and introducing an annual wealth tax of 1% on assets over £10 million, and 2% over £1 billion.
Our public services cannot take another round of austerity. Cuts will not deliver the change Labour promised. We urge the Government to take this bold action - for the sake of the public services on which we all rely.

The great thing about new MPs is they are not desensitised to the silly out of date practices that hold our country back.
A move like this would help government pass far more legislation and only rids us of pointless traditions. Councils cope just fine with electronic voting!
First vote in @HouseofCommons just done, at 10pm on the 4th day of debate.
Estimated time taken: over 10 minutes and still counting.
For comparison, voting in @Europarl_EN takes 10 seconds.
If the UK really cares about productivity, perhaps we could start here?
As a new MP I’ve spent as much time as possible in the Chamber these past few days. The behaviour today from @Conservatives was shocking. From the patronising & catty speech by @KemiBadenoch at the start to their braying benches at the end - deeply disappointing. We need better.
