We are Democrats because we believe in democracy.
Or at least, that's the idea.
The problem is, I have people in my social feed, in my personal circle, and sometimes on large Zoom calls, who do not believe in democracy. And nobody seems willing to challenge them.
Democratic Socialism: you want to regate the economy for the benefit of everyone
Marxism: you want to blow up rich people's houses like in "Glass Onion"
Well, I lost my blue checkmark. Oh, well.
There is no way I'm going to pay Elon for the privilege of looking important on one of the world's most toxic platforms.
Democratic Socialism: you want to use legal, nonviolent, democratic means to change the system from within
Marxism: you don't believe in voting, so you want to use subversion and disinformation to undermine the system until it's vulnerable to violent overthrow
And Federal legislation increasing the number of members of the US House of Representatives to the maximum allowed by the Constitution, eg 1 rep for every 30k people.
I calculated it at something over 11,000 US Reps.
I believe that would make our democracy more representative.

My only hope of ever even coming close to winning an election here in rural Oregon requires me to appeal to moderates; and that requires me to distance myself from extremists.
Sure, I could play to the base, that would get me retweets, but it would not get me votes.
If you publicly advocate for the violent overthrow of capitalism (even as a so-called "joke") then I consider you a Marxist.
And I've seen more comments of this type in the past few years alone, than I saw in all my previous forty-some-odd years combined.
I consider some of you extremists. I'm telling you this now so you won't be disappointed when you find out later. We generally agree on core values & priorities, but I consider your approach counterproductive. Your constant snark motivates the opposition & alienates moderates.
