According to folklore, Norwegian folk music originated among supernatural creatures. It was believed that the best folk musicians had learned their skills from otherworldly beings, like the hulderfolk.
The hulders are nymph-like creatures that dwell underground in the woods and inside mountains, and they are known for their extraordinary musical talent.
According to folklore, the hulders use music to seduce men who are alone in the wilderness. A "huldrelokk" is an eerily beautiful melody that is sung or played by a hulder in order to lure men into following her into the otherworldly realm of the hulders, never to be seen again.

I wish I saw more love for Roy G. Krenkel these days. A definite influence on some of my favorite artists.
Cover for Edgar Rice Burroughs’ “The Wizard of Venus”.
One of my favorite horror and fantasy artists, Manuel Sanjulian, painted this for the cover of Creepy magazine #42, published in November 1971.
The man’s work is always 🔥.
