Leadership is Not About Titles. Leadership is About Service.
At the Africa Mindset Reset Forum 2026 in Kigali, our Founder and Executive Director, @WakoliCaren , shared a powerful reminder that Africa's transformation will not be driven by age, titles, wealth, or positions of influence.
It will be driven by leaders with character, integrity, competence, and a commitment to service.
Reflecting on decades of engagement with leadership and governance across the continent, Caren challenged us to rethink some of our most common assumptions about change:
"Just having young people or women in positions of leadership without integrity, character, and competency will keep producing the same old results."
She reminded participants that institutions matter, but institutions ultimately reflect the character of the people who lead them.
"Leadership is not about wealth and titles and all the trappings of power. Leadership is about service."
Addressing the more than 80% young people in attendance, Caren issued a challenge that resonated deeply across the room:
"Africa owes the younger generation nothing. The world owes us nothing. The question is: What are you doing for yourself?"
She called on young Africans to embrace personal responsibility, discover their purpose, build discipline, and develop the values required to lead lasting transformation across the continent.
As Emerging Leaders Foundation-Africa (ELF-Africa), we remain convinced that Africa's greatest resource is its people and that the future of our continent depends on nurturing a critical mass of values-driven leaders who can strengthen institutions, serve with integrity, and transform communities.
The mindset reset Africa needs begins within each of us.

As we mark Katiba Day in less than 48 hours, we are reminded that a Constitution is more than a document. It is a promise about the kind of country we want to build.
As we reflect on the journey since the 2010 Constitution, we invite you to join our ED, Diana Gichengo and our Board Member Florence Machio, Head of Advocacy at Amplify Girls, alongside Prof. Kivutha Kibwana and Mr. Suba Churchill, for the ultimate panel exploring what it means to turn constitutional aspirations into lived realities. #CitizenDayBreak
Finally as the country continues to look towards Vision 2030 or is it 2060? Another question emerges: what does it actually take to realise the Kenya we imagined.

Turning Connections into Opportunity.
Following the Phase 1 Entrepreneurship Training, African Youth Panelist Cynthia shared what she needs to strengthen her entrepreneurial journey.
She highlighted the importance of networking, mentorship and job opportunities to build her experience and create new opportunities. She also hopes to take the knowledge gained back to her community in Machakos to support fellow young people and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
For Cynthia, the right networks, opportunities, mentorship and financial support could help her not only rebuild her own livelihood, but also extend the impact to other young people and PWDs in her community.
