😃The #Stirling900 launch continued this afternoon with a community event at the @smithmuseum, hosted by Provost Elaine Watterson.
🔎 Some of Stirling's historical treasures were on show at the event, including the ancient key of Stirling & the world's oldest curling stone.
🗝 #Stirling900 gets underway @stirlingcastle with a ceremonial opening of the castle gates by the Earl of Mar.
👋 We can't wait to welcome everyone to #Stirling over the next 12 months as we celebrate the city’s rich history and heritage.
You'll get a chance to see the Blue Blanket up close next year when we have the National Museums Scotland silver casket believed to have belonged to Mary Queen of Scots on display here at The Smith!
#Stirling900
Imagine unfurling something that Mary Queen of Scots created 😮
Here is a glimpse behind the scenes today as we work on a project with University of Stirling. This is the Blue Blanket, a saltire banner that Queen Mary and 'the four Marys' (her besties) sewed together. 👸💁♀️💁♀️💁♀️💁♀️
It is said that if Mary needed to call her loyal subjects to arms, the banner would be hung from the cross on Broad Street, Stirling. It was mostly used for ceremonial ocassions for hundred of years, and that is why it is in such a delicate condition.
The loan is generously supported by the Weston Loan Programme with @artfund.

We are thrilled to announce that we will be exhibiting this extraordinary silver casket believed to have belonged to Mary, Queen of Scots next year! 👑

Join us this Friday for the opening celebration of the exhibition. Drop in between 6-8pm on Friday 19 April.

The Smith is open Wednesday - Sunday, 10am-5pm.
Our newest exhibition, Darkness on the Edge of Democracy by Andrew Hay opens today.
The Smith is pleased to welcome this ambitious exhibition that explores the legacy of The Miners Strike, 40 years after they began in 1984.
Before he was a practicing artist, Andrew was a Shop Stewart who took part in the Strike by organising and delivering food parcels to mining communities. Bearing witness to such events left a lasting impression on him and has been a significant influence in his artistic practice
We are proud to be part of the collective effort to ensure everyone gets paid fairly. Together we have delivered a pay rise to over 64,000 workers and put over £485 million into the pockets of low paid workers.
@LivingWageScot
