This is an official government account in a democracy.
This is what Orbanism looks like. The president bragging, via AI video, that he forced a comedian who mocked him off the air and ‘into the trash’.
Awarding Vairamuthu the Jnanpith award legitimises and empowers him while further marginalising all the women who have had the courage to stand up against him. We cannot and should not separate an artist from the art he makes.

As soon as Perarignar Anna became the Chief Minister of the then Madras State, he passed 3 bills:
1. The Self-Respect Marriage bill, which did not require a Brahmin priest or Sanskrit recitations or a temple to get married.
2. The bill that officially renamed Madras State as Tamil Nadu.
3. The Two-Language Formula, establishing Tamil and English as the official languages of Tamil Nadu.
Anna said, “If any successors touch these three, the people will agitate. As long as that fear exists, it is Annadurai who rules the state of Tamil Nadu.”
@captainshanky@RaunakRK@irbishi@RaunakRK have to appreciate for that chat with Jemimah. Especially the balance between wanting to comfort someone and still sensitively take the conversation forward! So good.
“Participating in such meetings (Palestine solidarity protest) is the duty of artists like me. If our fame does not serve the cause of humanity and freedom, then there is no use being popular actors.”

In memory of Delhi Ganesh, sharing one of my favourite scenes from the movie Avvai Shanmuki. A rare thing of geniuses outperforming each other in one frame
Holy shit! Barack Obama just reminded everyone why is is considered the preeminent orator of our generation. Obama is delivering a tour de force in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is annihilating Trump like I've never seen before. 🙌🙏👏👊🌊
All it needed was 1 man among the 4 here to stop him and change the subject and go 'hey man, maybe let's not discuss the ex here?' I will harp on till I die that unless good men call out fellow men, misogyny will continue. But men aren't interested in breaking locker room banter
"“Herds are being separated near the border, and then the sub-adults are chased into Arunachal near Jairampur. There they are tamed and held pending the completion of paperwork."
Read this important investigative piece by @mrajshekhar (thank you!) not the drivel being dished out by a plaint media.
The real #anantambani #zoo story, and it isnt a love story but a murky tale of #wildlife laws , rules being tweaked to suit oligarchs. Wild animals, including #elephants captured from the wild, facilitated by the state .and doomed to captivity to indulge a scion of one of the richest men in the world.
The single biggest thing the #Ambanis could to to conserve wildlife is put their considerable weight to strenthen our #conservation laws , policy and support struggling PAs, #wildlife outside #PAs
#Conserve habitats alone for wild animals to flourish...not collect wild animals.
New Zealand🇳🇿 vs South Africa🇿🇦 Test series now gets officially named. The teams contest for the Tangiwai Sheild. The inaugural Tangiwai Shield series begins on 4th Feb. This has a deep story, unlike most other trophies named after cricketers.
It is to commemorate New Zealand's worst (and world's 8th worst then) train disaster that took place in 1953. It coincided with the first ever New Zealand Test tour of South Africa which took a 28-day boat voyage. During the 2nd Test, Bob Blair's fiance had lost her life back in NZ. This place was renamed Tangiwai (river of tears). This also coincided with first visit of Queen Elizabeth to New Zealand, and the celebrations were halted due to the accident. An announcement was made that Blair isn't expected to take further part in the Test on the Boxing Day. He stayed in the team hotel, with ten other New Zealand players coming to the ground.
The openers Geoff Rabone and Murray Chapple were hit by the aggressive fast bowler Neil Adcock. John Reid was hit 5 times during his knock of three runs. Frank Mooney were also badly hit. Both Bert Sutcliffe and Lawrie Miller were hospitalized for being hit on the head, but came back to back again. Miller batted despite the doctor telling against it. Bert Sutcliffe retired-hurt earlier and also fell down again in the Test, later saying he hasn't completely recovered from it. At 154/9, players left the field but Blair came to bat at No.11 from the tunnel, with the crowd of 23000+ standing in silence. Even the absolutely ruthless South Africans clapped for him and were in tears. Stunned Sutcliffe said his batting partner Blair which later became title of a book "What are you doing out here?" 21 year old Bob Blair had to wipe his tears before facing a ball. He added 33 runs for final wicket with Bert Sutcliffe whose forehead was tied with bandages to successfully avoid a follow-on, including his first boundary of Test career (a six). They also scored 25 runs in an over against Hugh Tayfield, one of the all time best off-spinners and most economical bowler of that era. This was then a world record for most runs in an over in Tests. Bert Sutcliffe also became the first New Zealander to score 1000 Test runs then. He hit 8 sixes in that single innings, while no New Zealander hit more 3 sixes in whole Test career by then.
Although NZ did not win a single Test by then (in 28 matches), this match has a special place in New Zealand's Test history, and was appreciated for several players showing courage. One of New Zealand's most prominent writers Dick Brittenden said that this is a story "every Kiwi child should learn at their mothers knee."
Many years Blair set to see a premiere on his story "The Second Test" said "Our guys were getting shot down and I had to help. They were bleeding on the outside and I was bleeding on the inside and we helped each other."
He also said then ''You know, it's been 57 years since it happened. I was New Zealand's 57th Test player and I still remember her address - 57 Compton Crescent." Also noticed that 57/5 was the score when Lawrie Miller came back after retiring-hurt, and Bert Sutcliffe shared a 57 run partnership immediately after he came back retired-hurt.
Bob Blair now aged 91, who lost her fiance in the Taingwai accident is now the only surviving player of that famous Test, to witness the inaugural Taingwai Shield in 2024.

Oh dear: why oh why can't India's spectacular monuments have a proper, well-trained conservation agency with a decent budget looking after them, rather than undergoing a rush job every time there is some splashy international gathering?
