Oh my days, he actually yells??? I’m no Carney defender but, the ineptitude on the Cdn fed govt en masse is colossal. I’d yell too. It’s literally impossible for any leader to get anything done of substance. There are effectively 4 tranches of govt: fed, provincial, municipal, and fn. None of them agree on anything.
@CTVNews I don’t think it’s because of lack of funding. They are heavily propped up by govt subsidy and an over reliance of foreign students paying full tuition. They never have to compete to stay afloat.
@MadelnCanada@lenianalyst Do I want Canadians companies to have a seat at the table? Yes. Should they have a seat at the table?? Only if they out compete the competition.
@rogergeorgekeen The math of supplanting access to USA market and protection with countries thousands of km away, simply doesn’t add up. The USA is the primary driver so Canada can have such broad social programs.
One can only infer this has been the intent all along. A pm serious about maintaining domestic prosperity, security, and safety would not antagonize its greatest ally/provider for a whole year and expect a positive outcome when talks resume. Instead, it has left its private sector and citizens vulnerable. Distressed assets and population are all the more willing to accept govt backstops aka govt control.
I don’t like what’s happening one bit. But musicians of all people should be careful here. The copyright mechanism is the very thing that protects your songs and content. It cuts both ways and one has to accept that. Playing favourites here doesn’t help when it comes time for you to invoke its protection.
@mario4thenorth The cpp board more and more has become beholden to stake holder capitalism/ESG… and bot simply highest roi. ie, prioritizing green investments which historically have low or zero roi. Further, they have become susceptible to activists w/green maximalism.
@Cricrifi@brianlilley It is my understanding they still have to pay them at least minimum wage. But because their immigration status relies on having a job and a place to stay, subsidies are less obvious… but 100% allows companies to take advantage and profit from it.
@Tablesalt13 Govt high spend is like opium to a struggling patient. When patient sobers and withdrawal sets in, more opium is given to function at all. Patient needs more opium just to feel normal and avoid a crash. Govt has become an enabler.
We are learning that the Liberal government, now holding the slimmest of majorities in the House of Commons, intends to assert control over all parliamentary committees—over votes, witness selection, points of order, agendas, and more.
Committee work is among the most important responsibilities of Parliamentarians, full stop. It is where legislation is thoroughly examined to ensure that decisions made by government serve the best interests of all Canadians.
While the Liberals are entitled to seek greater control, what I witnessed firsthand in Ottawa last week was troubling: a tone of arrogance, along with the mistreatment of some witnesses who expressed views not aligned with the party in power.
This is what is unfolding, and Canadians should be aware. Parliament will look very different over the next three years—even with only a razor-thin majority.
@MarkJCarney Whenever govt subsidizes a thing, the thing always ends up costing more. You know what brings down prices of the thing? More competition for the sale of the thing.
Investments return or they don’t. Some just don’t…ever. No matter how much money or policy you throw at them, they fail. They either don’t work, don’t last, aren’t consistent, or too expensive. You WILL run out of other people’s money to throw at them. And all will see those investments for what they truly are.
