The “missing GDP” story is getting harder to sustain.

As economist Soumya Kanti Ghosh points out, India’s GDP data are not telling a story of “missing growth” but of better measurement, fewer revisions and stronger underlying economic momentum.

The contrast is striking:

• In the earlier GDP series, 56 quarters saw 110 upward and 83 downward revisions.
• In the latest 14 quarters, there have been just 24 upward and 22 downward revisions.
• The latest revision actually increased real GDP by ₹372 trillion, while nominal GDP was revised down by ₹42 trillion.
• Manufacturing, trade, transport, finance, real estate and business services now have far better data coverage, capturing a much larger part of the formalising economy.

And the real economy is reinforcing the statistical picture: investment, credit, consumption, private-sector profits and manufacturing activity remain strong.

The “missing GDP” narrative is increasingly looking like an attempt to explain away what the data actually show: India’s economy is growing strongly, while its statistical system is getting better at measuring it.

₹2,000 से ऊपर UPI पर 0.5% टैक्स? कांग्रेस का दावा पूरी तरह झूठा है।

₹5,000 के भुगतान पर ₹25 और ₹10,000 पर ₹50 वसूले जाएंगे, ऐसा कोई सरकारी आदेश, टैक्स या consumer charge नहीं है।

14 सितंबर की अधिसूचना ने सिर्फ ₹2,000 तक के UPI और RuPay transactions पर zero-charge protection को स्पष्ट किया है। ₹2,000 से ऊपर के UPI payments पर 0.5% charge तय नहीं किया गया है।

और सबसे अहम बात, UPI users से कोई charge नहीं लिया जा रहा है। Person-to-person UPI transactions किसी भी राशि पर free हैं। सरकार ने साफ किया है कि यदि भविष्य में MDR लाया भी जाता है, तो वह सीमित merchant transactions पर होगा, consumer पर नहीं।

कांग्रेस जिन ₹25 और ₹50 की बात कर रही है, वे किसी सरकारी fee schedule के आंकड़े नहीं, बल्कि एक काल्पनिक 0.5% दर से निकाली गई मनगढ़ंत गणना हैं।

असलियत तो यह है कि UPI को free रखने के लिए सरकार खुद payment ecosystem को incentive दे रही है। FY22 से FY24 तक ही सरकार ने ₹1,389 करोड़, ₹2,210 करोड़ और ₹3,631 करोड़ के incentives दिए। 2025-26 में भी ₹2,196.21 करोड़ का incentive support दिया गया और FY27 के लिए ₹2,000 करोड़ budgeted है।

जिस UPI को मोदी सरकार ने दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा real-time payment ecosystem बनाया, उसे मजबूत और sustainable बनाने की चर्चा को “जनता से वसूली” बताना सिर्फ फर्जी डर फैलाने की राजनीति है।

UPI पर जनता से 0.5% टैक्स नहीं लग रहा।

Political and ideological differences are an inseparable part of politics. But when it comes to India and the national interest, there should be no room for personal animosity or partisan discord.

It is therefore deeply distressing that three Congress Chief Ministers invited to the BRICS leaders’ dinner chose not to attend.

The BRICS Summit was not a BJP event, nor a political platform. It was an international summit hosted by India, representing the Republic of India and its interests before the world.

Opposing PM Modi is one thing. But has the Congress now reached a point where, in opposing Modi, it ends up opposing India’s national interests and diplomatic engagements as well?

Politics can wait. India comes first.

Declining an invitation to an international engagement of this stature for partisan reasons is not just unfortunate, it is deeply disappointing and shameful.
