One thing you have to give Edwin Sifuna is that he works very hard.

You will notice that he is almost always in the Senate, even when the chamber is nearly empty, actively participating in debates and carrying out his legislative responsibilities.

The same commitment is evident on the campaign trail. Almost every weekend, he is in a different corner of the country with Linda Mwananchi, holding massive rallies, engaging Kenyans, listening to them and inviting them to own his vision.

This reminds me of the first time I met Uhuru Kenyatta in 2012, shortly after I started working for TNA. As I introduced myself, I confidently told him that the presidency was his for the taking. “Hii usha chukua,” I said.

He smiled and replied, “We can’t take anything for granted. We have to go to every part of this country and work for every vote.”

Watching Sifuna today, I am reminded of that same philosophy. He is not taking anything for granted. He is putting in the work, travelling across the country, meeting people where they are and working for every single vote.
