Unlike this denialist post, the World Bank report highlights a critical piece of physics: the difference in solar potential between the absolute best country in the world (Namibia) and the absolute worst (Ireland) is only a factor of about two. In other words, a solar panel in a low-sunlight country like the UK or Ireland still generates roughly half the total annual energy of a panel placed in the scorching Sahara desert. It doesn't drop to zero.

Northern Britain receives less sunshine than even Canada.

According to a World Bank solar resource assessment, the UK ranks among the least suitable countries for solar generation, second only to Ireland in Europe.

Low sunlight means low output and greater reliance on backup power.

Moreover, the UK government has approved solar geoengineering research, experiments designed to dim incoming sunlight.

So the policy is this: build solar in a low sunlight country while exploring ways to block the sun.

She fearlessly deflects decades of global scientific consensus as if she’s swatting a persistent wasp at a garden party, loudly declaring the climate compensation plea an absolute "scam" because the flood was immediately triggered by a failing chunk of glacial bedrock.

It is a spectacular performance, by a piece of writing so thoroughly unencumbered by anything resembling basic human sympathy, and so desperately eager to protect the balance sheets of multinational energy corporations that it achieves a kind of chaotic, farcical brilliance...

The Guardian claims ocean warming is causing a "staggering" collapse in marine life. But the study it cites actually shows the opposite.

When a year is warmer, fish biomass is found to increase by as much as 24%. When years turn colder, biomass falls by around 15%.

That is the observed data.

To preserve the climate narrative, however, the authors then abandon real year-to-year results and switch to a modelled decadal trend. The model assigns warming a negative effect and reports a decline.

That decline is not observed, it is modelled.

The authors go on to admit they cannot separate temperature effects from overfishing, which is the primary, well-known driver of fish declines worldwide.

Since fishing pressure is not included, the model loads losses onto temperature by default. Even though, as per the study's own data, warmer years mean more fish.

The collapse exists only in the model and the headlines.

Air conditioning relies on a stable, functional electrical grid. Relying on AC to survive global warming while ignoring the fact that rising temperatures strain power grids to the point of blackouts is a lethal oversight.

Assuming a vulnerable 85-year-old in a temperature-controlled American suburb represents the global reality is entirely inaccurate. A subsistence farmer in South Asia or Sub-Saharan Africa cannot simply turn up the AC when wet-bulb temperatures hit life threatening limits.

A drop in US Medicare spending does not mitigate global issues like crop failures, rising sea levels, migrating disease vectors or ecosystem collapses.

Intermediate scenarios are not a passive, natural outcome. They represent a future where the world takes significant action to cut emissions and curb warming. Celebrating the lower numbers in an intermediate scenario while actively fighting against the emissions reductions required to achieve them is entirely contradictory. But it's lucrative for climate science denialists, right?
