- reads from teleprompter
- immediately starts with October 7th
- still won’t call it a genocide
- says he doesn’t know enough about what’s happening
- makes no apology to Macklemore or addresses dropping him from the tour
- doesn’t mention where his donation will be going to
- doesn’t encourage anyone to donate
- won’t say Israel is the reason Gaza is suffering
- won’t say free Palestine
- only cries when he sees people showed up to the concert because that’s what he cares more about.
Fuck him.
This is straight up HR reading from a legally approved script before they lay you off energy. Having to read from a prompter about a moral position is CRAZY. Worst crisis PR I’ve seen in a long time.
Inshallah the UAE will be on Israel level of reputation soon. So no one will ever dare to say “what about USA” to Sudanese people ever again. UAE your downfall is coming inshallah!!!
Hard not to read anti-migrant political undertones into this "support" campaign. Fair play to Vinicius, Mbappé and Konaté for not buying into the moral panic around Ceuta. The city has not undergone some deadly natural disaster or suffered "an invasion" as the Spanish right repeatedly claim. The 141 victims who died also forgotten in this partisan and inappropriate campaign.
So, basically, Robert Kraft and the heads of the NFL think Macklemore is more subversive — i.e. a threat to the status quo — than Kendrick Lamar… Kinda crazy, no?
Macklemore says Ed Sheeran and his team decided to remove him from tour due to his comments in support of Palestine, after Kraft Group rallied stadium owners and gave Ed an ultimatum:
“[Ed] told me that the words ‘Free Palestine’ and the image of the Palestinian flag were hurtful to a lot of people he spoke with. I told him that if those words were more offensive than tens of thousands of Palestinian children being killed by Israel, then there was a fundamental disconnect between where those people stood and where I stood. But he couldn't get past his public facing, ‘I don't take sides.’”
P!nk responds to backlash after she shared a post labelling Macklemore as “anti-Israel” for spreading awareness about Palestine:
“Last Sunday I reposted somebody else's post about
Macklemore's set at Ed Sheeran's show. It said things in words I didn't write, and I wouldn't have chosen all of them. […] I've spent a decade as a UNICEF ambassador for kids who didn't choose the country or the war they were born into, and I have grieved every one of them, on both sides of that fence. I didn't do it from behind a screen; I went to those children and held them. I'm not going to litigate a complex war in an Instagram caption, and I'm not going to recite anybody's slogan to earn back a follower.”
