Dystopian cityscapes are often designed to look bleak, but whether it’s this or Blade Runner, they never have that effect on me. I like the towering, broken architecture, the dark corners and impersonal fronts, the candy-colored neon.

I don't think it's possible to overstate how much of an influence my grandma's house had on my tastes in interior design. my grandma's house was basically unchanged from 1968 until we sold the house in 2011.
