Zuul. This single specimen of this Late Cretaceous dinosaur is the most complete ankylosaurid discovered in North America. It was buried belly-up below the surface and unearthed unexpectedly while scientists were searching for remains of a different dinosaur.

We get to see and understand that sweep of deep time that connects us to an impossibly ancient world, which - at least to me - is much more interesting and wonderful than any mythology or supposed magic.

But they lived, and thrived, and existed as part of a wider environment not just contemporaneously, but through time and space as well. They are with us both in living form as modern birds and, by a quirk of geology, as petrified bones beneath our feet.
