@Nigelrefowens @mathew1864 @1GarethWynJones That’s fundamentally where I disagree. I don’t believe badger predation and scavenging is a big issue. Much stronger evidence on habitat loss (urban and rural), food availability (invertebrate decline), corridors for movement, the list could go on.

@Nigelrefowens @mathew1864 @1GarethWynJones You haven’t and I didn’t mean to suggest that you had. As you do say, badgers are not the main reason - and there are many other highly influential factors that are well worth highlighting if we want to make a meaningful impact on hedgehog numbers.

Badger control not the answer here, however, and would benefit neither species. To protect hedgehogs we need to do more on urban garden access, safe hibernation, road crossing & food access.

@matthewcobb For me it feels like a very large blind spot - with your brain attempting to patch over surrounding colour/texture so that you don’t notice it, except it’s so large an area that the resulting effect can be a bit funky. Sometimes for me it’s just matte.
