AAP, CONGRESS AND AKALI DAL EXPRESS SATISFACTION WITH PUNJAB’S SIR PROCESS.

The AAP, Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal have all expressed satisfaction with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Punjab, with representatives of all three parties stating on record that they have no objections to the final electoral roll uploaded today.
Chief Electoral Officer Anandita Mishra handed over the details of the revised electoral rolls to representatives of various political parties.
According to the figures shared, Punjab’s electorate has declined from 2.14 crore voters before the SIR exercise to 2.01 crore in the final electoral roll which is a reduction of approximately 13 lakh voters.

Significantly, all three major political parties have publicly expressed satisfaction with the process and stated that they have found no wrongdoing in the revision exercise.

In 2018, when Mamata Banerjee was the CM of West Bengal, her party TMC won 20,159 uncontested panchayat seats.

No polling took place in these seats because there was no contest. Opposition parties alleged that their candidates were prevented from filing nominations.

The figure of 20,159 uncontested seats won by the TMC is the highest ever recorded in the history of West Bengal Panchayat elections.
