A 47-year-old truck driver was arrested after members of the SAPS Tactical Response Team intercepted a truck carrying suspected stolen essential infrastructure components near a filling station within the Glen policing precinct on Friday, 12 June 2026. Police acted on information about a horse-and-trailer truck travelling to Gauteng with suspected stolen goods.
The white Volvo FH truck was searched after being stopped, and officers noticed copper cables protruding from torn bags. The driver was instructed to return to Bloemfontein under police escort to the grounds of Parkweg Police Station. Experts and investigators from Centlec (SOC) Ltd, Telkom and Eskom were called in to assist with identifying the recovered materials.
The identification process continued at Bainsvlei Police Station on Saturday, 13 June 2026, where the goods were unloaded. Telkom also identified 40 kilograms of its property valued at approximately R4,500. In total, nine large bags of infrastructure components were seized.

A case relating to suspected stolen essential infrastructure and the Criminal Matters Amendment Act 18 of 2015 was opened at Glen Police Station.
