This past weekend, Dr. Pavlekovich and Mr. McCrobie traveled to Pittsburgh for the Three Rivers Educational Technology Conference where they learned more about how transformative edtech is revolutionizing learning and work, and how it will further advance our program.

Students are the future of our workforce. Through the integration of educational technology, students have before them the opportunity to experience the pathway to “what is next” while in the classroom. These pathways lead to strong foundations and momentum in future careers.

In partnership with @pickeringcreek, 8th NexGen spent time at the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center on Friday. While visiting, students learned about the environment of the local area, Tubman’s life and legacy, and the influence of the environment on Tubman.

7th NexGen students investigated various habitats at @pickeringcreek today with field equipment. After comparing these various habitats, students returned to the field to make close observations of plants and animals to begin making field guides for visitors of Pickering Creek.

6th NexGen visited Pickering Creek today. @pickeringcreek conserves natural habitats on MD’s Eastern Shore. We share their vision of creating a community where people see and feel the value of our natural world and make it a priority in their everyday decisions and actions.

7th NexGen are currently utilizing our video production equipment and our 24” iMac’s to produce a TV news story highlighting the pollution, invasive species, and habitat loss in the Great Lakes freshwater ecosystem, and what should be done to preserve and protect them.

7th NexGen students are continuing to extensively research, and create a living model of the Great Lakes freshwater ecosystem in supplied fish tanks in order to evaluate how humans can best use and protect Earths freshwater resources. Stay tuned for continued updates!

In Project Lead the Way (PLTW), 6th NexGen had to design, build, and test a prototype of an ankle, foot orthosis. After testing them out, the groups presented their prototypes to the class. #TheNexGen

After a crash course in TinkerCad in the NeXus Lab, our Hub for Innovation, 6th NexGen was given the task of designing simple customized luggage tags and other personal items. They were excited to see them printing on our 3D Printers! #Curiosity #Creativity #Innovation #TheNexGen

Exploring a pond ecosystem, the first of three we will investigate. Students will make a comparison to the characteristics of the Great Lakes Ecosystem, and will ultimately drive them toward further understanding how people can best use and protect Earth’s freshwater ecosystems.

8th NexGen spent time reinforcing course and program cooperative group expectations through a “Wanted Poster” activity requiring them to think critically about the values they look for in group mates, and then seeking and finding those that hold these same values.
