Broad Street Bridge was constructed in 1836 originally as an aqueduct for the Erie Canal. In the 1910s the Erie Canal was rerouted south of the city and Broad Street Bridge was converted to part of Rochester’s subway system, which is frequently mentioned in the book Smugtown USA
