I grew up wired to be a people pleaser.
I was the youngest in my family by a significant age gap. My days were all about making life easier for everyone around me. While my family showed me love and praised me, a deeper story unfolded:
- I wasn't doing things because I wanted to. I did them because it was EXPECTED of me.
- Saying no to myself and yes to everyone else became a habit.
- My worth got tangled up in other people's opinions.
- Others took precedence and I ended up at the bottom of the list.
- The fear of saying NO gripped me.
- My goals and dreams took a back seat.
I knew I had to change to have the life I wanted, but it would come with a cost: ๐๐ฎ ๐๐๐ข๐๐ก๐๐๐จ ๐ก๐ค๐ซ๐ ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐ฅ๐ง๐๐๐จ๐
What did I do? ๐ฆ๐๐ง ๐๐ข๐จ๐ก๐๐๐ฅ๐๐๐ฆ
- I said NO when I needed to.
- Clients and plans were no longer reshuffled to "make things work."
And here's where the magic happenedโ
I started saying ๐ฌ๐๐ฆ to myself. And it felt amazing.
What happened next?
Despite remaining kind and caring it wasn't enough and I transformed into the black sheep, but with a cup that was not just full but OVERFLOWING.
Fast forward to launching my first business and racking up personal wins. Suddenly, the people who โloved" me distanced themselves. The more I succeeded, the more I faced criticism. "Selfish" and "you changed" became the theme of the day.
I would be lying if I said it didnโt hurt BUT I was grateful.
I realized who was clapping for me and who wasnโt. My circle got smaller and the people I have in my life are here for all the right reasons. It was a BLESSING.
I'm sharing my journey because I've seen those "easier said than done" comments whenever I talk about removing toxicity and setting boundaries.
Iโll never say itโs a walk in the park because itโs not. Itโs painful to let go of the people and things that no longer serve you.
But I also know itโs possible to live the life you want - Iโm living proof.
All I needed was to take my power back and guess what? You can too.
@UNZimbabwe@euinzim@faosfsafrica Thank you so much for the assistance. May you kindly consider our area as well. It's under Region 5 Masvingo South constituency and the rains are usually erratic. We don't have safe drinking water๐ .
Zimbabweans are preparing for death more than they can prepare for life. The salary of a teacher after Nyaradzo has taken its $18 000 (US$15) is equivalent to $15. @nickmangwana are there any plans to pay teachers a livable wage... at least US$1000 is where life starts.
