I've had about a day to think about this whole Trump-Zelensky thing so far. During that time I have been fairly vigorously defending Trump's position. Now I have some thoughts.

Firstly, I stand by most of my criticism of Zelensky. I don't really like the guy. Even when I was a hardcore follower of Ukraine's cause I found him odd and somewhat off-putting. And peoples blind defense of him over the last day like he is some kind of saint has really bothered me. But based on recent evidence, I no longer accept Trump's assessment that Zelensky is a dictator. He has definitely undertaken some actions towards journalists and dissenting churches that aren't great, but I no longer consider his lack of elections dictatorial. Nor do I accept the idea that he is wildly unpopular in Ukraine. I am more than willing to diverge with Trump on this point, even when this contradicts replies I have made recently on peoples posts. I will leave those posts up so people see my record. People should be able to change their mind based on evidence. I also am happy to say that Putin is a monstrously evil human being who is the perfect example of a modern dictator. Cold, violent, selfish, and utterly uncaring of human lives. Even with all my other views on Ukraine and Russia, Trump needs to call Putin out on this. I still think there is a future where America and Russia could have a detente and even cooperate. But Trump needs to call Putin out.

Secondly, I have been a Trump supporter for a while now, and I still think he is just what America and the world needs. He thinks outside the box and acts in ways that people don't always respect. His unpredictability is shaking up the system, and that is welcome. He has also successfully hamstrung the woke movement in America and put it on notice around the world. That is a good thing. But I am struggling to see the wisdom in his current actions towards Zelensky. I wholeheartedly agree that America should not be paying any more money for the war, nor should any Americans (or really any powers outside of Europe) need to be deployed to Ukraine. Europe needs to step up and sort their own shit. Trump promised that and he is delivering on that promise. But Ukraine also shouldn't really be getting thrown under the bus to the extent that Trump is considering. They are the victims. There is an argument that Nato expansion upset Russia and that they just wanted to shore themselves up, but they attacked a sovereign nation and caused massive suffering. Zelensky did not start the war. Trump has succeeded in uniting a whole range of people against him. I haven't seen such hatred for Trump being spewed online since the aftermath of Jan 6th. I've spent the last day defending him. My hope is that there is something behind all of this that we don't fully comprehend, like Trump's masterful approach to Gaza, which is forcing Egypt and other Arab states to act. But at the moment I am really struggling to see anything. This needs to be one heck of a reveal for it to be worthwhile because the goodwill Trump had stored up with certain groups (particularly Europe) has been blown to pieces with one social media post. He will still have his support in America, but his foreign policy is currently falling to pieces.

Thirdly and finally. I wish Ukraine well. I am sad for the civilian and military deaths, but the war needs to end. If Trump's actions force the end of the war, that will be a good thing. This war has gone on far beyond what it should have. A negoiated settlement was possible a while ago. It really does seem like the American military-industrial complex kept it going far beyond what was necessary. There are definitely arguments that there was major corruption regarding war funding. But the war must end. Even if Trump's reputation is ruined, as a Trump fan, I hope peace does come from this and that it is a fair and lasting peace that doesn't disrespect all the lives lost. The next few weeks will be very interesting.

Meet Lexi Kuenzle.

She’s one of the good ones.

Yesterday, in front of a nurses station — with 8 (eight) nurses & a PATIENT —

Dr. Matthew Jung said in front of everyone,

“I hate Charlie Kirk. He had it coming. He deserved it.”

Lexi, a registered nurse, was the ONLY one that spoke up: “You’re a doctor. How could you say someone deserved to die.”

Lexi said you could hear a pin drop & no one said anything, including the patient.

She reported the incident to management & — after she got home — posted about it & Dr. Matthew Jung on her private Instagram.

She received an email from her union representative saying that she needs to look for another job.

Lexi was also pulled into a meeting & is suspended without pay indefinitely pending an investigation.

Meanwhile, there’s no information on whether or not Dr. Matthew Jung is being reprimanded.

Lexi has filed a lawsuit.

I interviewed her over the phone & she said,

“I was deeply saddened over the assassination of Charlie Kirk. It was devastating to hear of the killing of an innocent father and I thought everyone would agree — especially a doctor whose purpose is to save lives.

In a time where personal social ideologies are often celebrated, especially if they align with popular progressive topics, I simply aimed to stand up for what is right. They tried to shut me up, but they’re not going to.”

Lexi hopes you will share her story & that’s why I’m sharing it with you.

The fact also remains that Dr. Matthew Jung should be held accountable for saying “Charlie deserved it” in front of a nurses station & a PATIENT.

What if the patient disagrees? Would Dr. Matthew Jung treat them? Would he treat them differently? Would he allow his emotions to cloud his judgement, as he did by saying such a statement in front of a patient?

I'd like to comment on a little-recognized effect I believe Charlie Kirk’s assassination is having on certain corners of the Right.

About ten years ago, I escaped from living in the SF Bay Area. The outright, visceral, violent hatred that so many Bay Area residents had towards ANY political dissent shocked me when I moved there, and was one of the main reasons I left.

When I moved, I moved to a deep, deep red state. I made conservative friends here. These are nice, decent people who live by a mantra of you leave me be, I’ll leave you be. But what shocked me about them was their unwillingness to believe just how deeply Democrats hate them. I tried explaining to them that most Democrats want them and their way of life dead and destroyed; that Democrats offer no political quarter and will not tolerate dissent of any kind from their neo-Marxist orthodoxies; and that comity is dead on the Democrat side and all they want is power over everything we conservatives hold dear, and that they would do literally anything to achieve and maintain that power.

They didn’t believe me. They said I was exaggerating. They said what I was saying was not possible.

They thought this because they had lived their whole lives in their red state, and in their red state Democrats were far more conservative than the vast majority of Democrats nationally, and in this state Democrats were such a small minority that they were forced to show the comity that the rest of that party long ago abandoned.

My red state friends just assumed this was the same everywhere.

No longer.

Charlie Kirk’s death has galvanized them and made them believers.

Literally millions of peaceful, law-abiding conservatives who just want to be left alone have been woken up and suddenly realize that most Democrats would gladly see them dead.

The fate of millions depends upon the defeat of this wicked ideology. The fate of our children, our society, our civilization hinges on it.

Now we devote ourselves, with love and unyielding determination, to finishing the indispensable work to which Charlie bravely devoted his life and gave his last measure of devotion.
