How one compares the vastly differently staged Habs and Leafs situation like this can only be explained by insufferable blue-tinted glasses-filled jealousy and obsession.
Hereβs the thing about Toronto: If the Maple Leafs had bowed out of the playoffs playing as badly as the Canadiens did in their last three games, the Leafs would be hearing it til October. The Habs? They were just out of gas and beaten by a better team.
Why is there a voice in the back of my head that says that the Avs will fire Bednar, he'll get quickly hired by a West opponent, face them in the 1st or 2nd round and then get torched by them in a cruel twist of fate.
I have seen a lot of chokery with this team but I cannot remember the last time they just looked solved and unable to do absolutely anything. Truly remarkable.
@BrittGusmus Anytime you have Cale and Mack you have a chance but the clock is ticking. And their bodies just keep taking hits. This is what makes years like this hurt even more- a lot of the big dogs were out of the mix. The Oilers, Stars and Wild will be back and likely even better.
@Avalangelist It has me wondering, for a lot of these guys, are we simply just witnessing a symphony of the beginning of a mid-30s age-related decline?
