idk why people insist itโs bad to point out qifrey is gender non conforming. or refuse to acknowledge it at all. all iโm saying is heโs not traditionally masculine, not that heโs a woman/women have to act a certain way to be women. youโre extrapolating things i didnโt say
i do think part of what's interesting about qifrey is his character takes on a nurturing role for the girls that's not typical of male characters in media or male teachers shown IN wha either
i agree there's dif layers to this
1) witch society has dif gender norms. at the same time the education system looks traditionally masculine + flawed for in part that reason. qifrey is a contrast.
2) qifrey is already othered. his past, disability, + even his name set him apart.
@hurtandcomfort the adaptation is soo beautiful too. in my case ig i'm so annoyed by this specifically because i know it was likely a conscious choice to make him more palatable.
i donโt have the energy right now to put full thoughts into this but i actually do think they made qifrey a tad less gender non-conforming in the anime and i hate it

also there will come a point where many of the kids in wha might make uncomfortable decisions and do things they regret, because thatโs part of growing up. arkco in particular are VERY early in their arcs. theyโre not going to be small beans that can do no wrong forever!
@dr3wisms itโs so boring! iโm worried that some people got into wha because a large part of the cast are still kids and they think it makes it โpureโ and theyโre immune from doing โbadโ things
