In Ottawa-Gatineau's suburban and outer urban areas, 60-77% of trips are made by car. Even in the most walkable downtown areas, 35% of travellers drive.

These are all potential bus riders. There is no shortage of 'demand' for service that actually meets people's needs.

@BelisleFrance Glad to hear the City is expanding its network. For bike paths to be safe in the winter, they must be separated from the car lanes. The blue paths (in the pic) are great but few. As someone who bikes year-round, I would not feel safe biking on most of the yellow & black paths.

This is how many Gatineau bike paths look like in the winter. They’re not winter maintained. At all. This makes them unusable for people with accessibility needs, cyclists, seniors etc. It’s mind-boggling how a City can ignore its citizens’ needs for half the year! @BelisleFrance

@BelisleFrance The pic was taken on the bike path along Prom. de la Gatineau (between Taché and Gamelin), but the same issue applies to many other spots: Lac-des-Fées, walking bridges, many sidewalks, etc. I know some paths are managed by the NCC, but maybe you can push them on these issues.

If approved by council, the transit budget will take us from 851 buses pre-pandemic to 738. We need more buses, not less, to deliver a level of reliable and accessible service that will actually attract new riders and get cars off the road!
