@kyeruphiona Living in the uk has its struggles too, I left in 2017 and I have never looked back. What the uk offers is order and everything is in a straight line. Work, pay bills sleep eat, party a little and repeat. However what Uganda offers with all its imperfections is life,.
The cocoa price (for fermented and dried beans) paid to farmers here has just dropped by 8%, to approx $6 USD/kg.
Just days before we were about to sell our latest batch 😕
Still, it remains nearly 300% higher than a year ago, so we can't grumble.#Cocoa#Uganda
Another harvest, another record: 1,137kg of cocoa pods, nearly four times the amount we harvested this time last year.
And a day after the price went up again 😊

After two weeks without rain in the middle of the rainy season, we've devised a vanilla irrigation system — water pumped up and fed through a pipe suspended above the vines to give a cross between a drip and a sprinkler. #OrganicAgriculture#vanilla#ClimateEmergency
The last few vanilla beans of the first season of 2022 complete the sweating/sun-drying phase of curing. They will now go inside on to drying racks until they reach a moisture content of 25%.
Naturally, this involves checking every bean every 2-3 days 😕

Milestone #3: we just sold our first batch of organic Robusta, to Great Lakes Coffee Company for use in their roastery in Kololo, Kampala. Hoorah!

A batch of organic vanilla at the sun-drying stage of curing. Unlike most, we harvest selectively, only picking mature beans to ensure the best quality possible. We also do not use plastic tarpaulins, to avoid contamination by micro plastics.
