A5: I typically share about times that I’ve fallen short of my goals and how I learned from it. I try to specifically discuss what they learned from not meeting those goals (and how learning from those trials is huge in itself) make a game plan for the next time! #MCPchat

A4: okay, so I used to teach preschool, and I missed giving out gold stars/stickers. I would always say “you get a cold star” then one of my Ss made me a legit Ms. Nelson gold star sticker…so now they get “gold star” celebrations during class time & I mail them home 😂#MCPchat

A3: I tried to maintain wellness Wednesday, in that I meet with students on Wednesdays specifically just to check in with Ss about their goals. We discuss the progress they’ve made through conferences & we encourage evidence of what they notice & I notice #MCPchat

A2: It depends on the goal! In my advisory class, I have a lot students who are tardy/miss classes, so we look at some of that data and make goals. However, for some students, we make goals on certain standards, so I use pretests and mastery checks to set goals #MCPchat

I just read an advice column where a parent asked how to get their kid to stop reading Graphic Novels. They made it seem like he had a drug addiction and needed real help. If you take away graphic novels you show kids that reading can’t be fun. That’s what happened to me!

@modernclassproj @azaroffclass I’ve seen hexagonal thinking done in a few different ways! My former mentor teacher, H. Moehrke, presented it to students like this! I’ve adapted this method for myself. It’s a really neat concept! I’ve also noticed Ss who like puzzles THRIVE with this activity!

A5: I use a variety of methods - Canvas comments, 1-1 conferences, peer live review where I’m asking Ss to help explain why an answer choice might be wrong, etc. My current Ss seem to like the whole group feedback more. Last year it was 1-1 conferences. Feedback changes! #MCPchat

A4: I’m growing in this area. I’ve created awesome personalized review plans, but I’m not always sure that they help all students remember things long term. The choice board review options seem to be most effective, but I’m looking forward to reading what others do! #MCPchat

A3: Review really varies! Live review games where I can immediately provide feedback. Personalized review plans. Choice boards. Test reviews where Ss review their answers and compare it with an answer key and share what misconceptions they think they had and why, etc. #MCPchat

A2: Now that I know the proper terminology - one of my fav retrieval practices is to have Ss TEACH things to ME w/o notes. They teach the main concepts and share what they still are working on sticking to memory. It also helps me see what stuck out the most to them! #MCPchat
