I am so pleased to share some happy news, despite these uncertain times - this coming fall, I'll be joining @UMassLowell as an assistant professor of @UML_Biology!
Stay tuned for Lee lab updates on chromatin, longevity, epigenetics, and of course, #celegans!
π Congrats to Tahreem and Marybeth for breezing through their qualifying exams!!! ππͺ± 𧬠As you can see, big milestones in the Lee lab warrant big bursts of confetti π
(although the confetti canon might've been more alarming than the QE itself π )
Cheers to the completion of the fifth annual Lee lab bootcamp week π§ π§¬πͺ± (and special thanks to @KCSciences_UML for funding three folks this year π).
Hot science summer, here we come! π
- and my proposal writing ride-or-die @cdokafor, (who has the magic touch for grants! π). My wish for all new PIs is that you find someone as thoughtful and helpful (and as willing to read long things on short notice) as her!
One last piece of news to cap off the year.... the Lee lab is now funded by anβ¨NSF CAREERβ¨
We'll explore how transgenerational inheritance affects the earliest decisions in C. elegans embryos AND build new CUREs for our first-gen students. πͺ±π§¬
Funding makes us feel π
- UML friends @SGigWolf, Natalie Steinel, & Freddy Chain for provided much needed feedback & sanity during writing;
- @KCSciences_UML and @UMLResearch for all the grantsmanship support;
- *everyone* at the NSF (esp with the year they've had), including my PO @chud8;
Felicitations continue with welcoming the latest grads of #uml2026
π ππ
I met Lee lab seniors Kelin & Thiago *before* college started, as members of my first-gen pod, and I've been Sabreena's faculty advisor since she transferred to bio (she's in the Fish/Lee for her MS!)
Celebration festivities continue with bestowing
@HonorsUML stoles upon our graduating seniors! This year it's Thiago Borges (soon to start his PhD @biologyBC!). ππ· As a bonus, we also wrangled a photo with some (of the many!) @UML_Biology & @KCSciences_UML honors students.π
One last farewell from your #NESDB2026 organizers - Mansi, John, and me (all @berkeleyMCB alums!). But the countdown starts NOW.... only 50 weeks til #NESDB2027!
We're *delighted* to introduce next year's team: Becca @radikes, Juanma, & Jess. See y'all next time!
The posters at #NESDB2026 are bustling and crowded, but that's half the fun!
Thanks to everyone who stopped by one of the Lee lab's posters, shown below in situ: PhD students Tahreem & Marybeth, and graduating senior Thiago @tgborges12 (also a @SocDevBio Choose Dev Fellow!)
We love to see a crowded & buzzy poster session! ππ€
We had a whooping 130 posters at #NESDB2026 (that thankfully still fit in Swope π ) and thank goodness enough folks pitched in to ensure everyone had a few poster judges. πππ
It's a perfect day to head on down to Woods Hole for #NESDB2026! The Lee lab has arrived, and we can't wait to welcome y'all to what's going to be a fantastic meeting!
@SocDevBio
Springtime is graduation & celebration time! π₯³ We are so proud of Lee lab senior Thiago Borges, who won the Outstanding Scholar AND Excellence in Research awards from @UML_Biology πππ
πͺ±π§¬Calling all worm-friends to join us in Madison this summer!! π§¬πͺ±
Even better, it's a special two-fer meeting, with MAPSS and DevCell sessions featured. Abstracts for talk consideration are due next Fri Apr 3 - submit here!

We love celebrating Lee lab trainees inside and outside the lab! (You can tell from her hair and tie-dyed labcoat that CeCe's a colorful personalityπ) Check out this profile highlighted her time as a member of the marching band, Honors college, and rockstar undergrad researcher:
March is Womenβs History Month! π
At @UMassLowellβs Kennedy College of Sciences, we celebrate the women leading groundbreaking research, inspiring our students, and strengthening STEM every day.

My lab had a BLAST being movie stars for a day! π½οΈ π¬ We love showcasing the amazing opportunities for student research @UMLResearch, & everyone pitched in to brainstorm what lab tasks would make good b-roll (they insisted we show off our brand-new-at-the-time episcope π)
Interested in research? The Lee Lab at UML explores epigenetics, chromatin, and aging using C. elegans. Students can gain hands-on experience and contribute to exciting discoveries! @snickclunk@UML_Biology
πͺ±Worm-friends! Join us this summer in Madison for the C. elegans topic meeting(s) - MAPSS *and* DevCell πͺ±
Early birds get the you-know-what, and the early registration deadline is THIS FRI: https://t.co/C0o6y2PUrT
It's buy-one-get-one, and who out there doesn't love a deal??
Last week, I hosted John Young for our dept seminar & we heard about his evo-devo approach to bird and amphibian limb development!π¦€π₯πΈ
We were in the same @berkeleyMCB grad cohort (nigh on 20 yrs agoπΆ) & I've loved catching up with his lab each year at NESDB.
