Another horrible experience during the World Cup in the US

After the match I went to a restaurant in Boston

I know about the tipping culture in the US, so I was prepared to leave a generous 3%

To my shock, the bill arrived with 22% already added

"What is this?" I called the waiter over

"Oh, we include the tip in the bill, so it is easier to pay"

"Please remove it. Tipping is not mandatory and legally I am only required to pay for my meal"

"This is not how it works here, buddy... The tip is included" he said arrogantly

I looked around. The entire staff was African-American and staring at me

At this moment I was afraid it could get ugly, and that I might even get shot, so I paid and left

On the bus back to the hotel I immediately contacted my German bank to start a chargeback process

I’ll keep this short because I think you appreciate directness.

WhatsApp is the last personal space we have on the internet. No algorithms. No follower counts. No performance. Just people talking to people.

Every other app has turned into a stage. WhatsApp is still a room.
And now — with channels, status updates being pushed harder, and the slow creep of social features — I worry we’re about to lose that too.

The beauty of WhatsApp was never in its features. It was in its restraint. Simple. Sober. Personal. The one app where I don’t have to be a brand, I can just be a person.
I have no doubt you understand this better than most — you’ve built CRED on the philosophy of trust and user experience. So I’m not writing this out of frustration. I’m writing this out of hope.

Please advocate for keeping WhatsApp what it is. Don’t let it become the next Instagram.
It’s the only app left where people are still real.

Significantly, they've also discussed a complete acquisition too!!

Facebook parent Meta, over the past weeks, has held discussions to invest in Indian fintech Cred, at least six people aware of the discussions told Moneycontrol.

While the tech giant has explored investing tens of millions of dollars in Cred as primary capital, it has also evaluated other options, including a full acquisition of the company at a lower valuation and bringing founder Kunal Shah into the organisation in an operating role, sources told Moneycontrol.

“Which path Meta ultimately chooses remains unclear. What is evident, however, is that Cred is in need of fresh capital and Meta has expressed a willingness to back the company,” one of the people cited above said.
