The ringleader of a grooming gang operating in North Wales has been sentenced to 35 years in prison.

Mustafa Iqbal, of Trellewelyn Road, Rhyl, was convicted of offences including four rapes and three sexual assaults involving girls aged 14, 15 and 16.

His conviction comes a week after the Senedd blocked a Wales-specific inquiry into gang based sexual exploitation.

The inquiry, proposed by the Conservatives, would have investigated authorities with child safeguarding responsibilities that fall under the Senedd's control.

It was voted down by Plaid Cymru Senedd members.
