This is the cleanest test of self-interest in the modern Senate. 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐛𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝 as either supporting the principle that they should not get paid while federal employees go without paychecks, or actively defending their own salaries during a shutdown they helped cause.
