not gonna lie, some days were just me digging through the internet thinking “surely something happened in game dev today” haha
then the next day there’d be 20 things worth covering
https://t.co/mppQkkugr7 is 1 year old today 🎂
started as a small way to track what’s happening in game dev and share useful finds and it became a daily thing.
thanks to everyone reading, replying, sharing, or quietly opening it ❤️
Can anyone help us get the word out about our new game?

Good news: I finally SIMD-ified several UTF-8 string operations — seeing up to 10× gains. Wild that most libraries still don’t optimize for UTF-8, given it’s the dominant format in the HTML corpora Frontier AI labs train on.
Bad news: SVE(2) is so underpowered on many devices that NEON often wins even when SVE is available 🤦♂️
Some Zen5 cherry-picks for UTF-8 tokenization:
• Splitting on 8× 1–3-byte line delimiters (Chinese): 16.65 GiB/s vs 1.93 GiB/s (serial)
• Splitting on 25× 1–3-byte whitespace chars (Korean): 1.88 GiB/s vs 0.98 GiB/s (Rust std)
More workloads are coming. Until then: `pip install stringzilla`, `cargo add stringzilla`, or CMake-fetch it if your pain tolerance matches mine 😅

yeah, RARELY some great posts are poorly graded and are skipped, but for me it was fine. now, as this is publicly available, i'm going over most of the scraped data and grade myself if needed, so that those posts aren't skipped

tldr: i created a gamedev newsletter
a couple months back i wanted to get back into gamedev and decided to check the latest news in unity (my primary choice of engine) and gamedev in general. so the list of pages i needed to check daily grew to like an absurd number
