NEWS: SoftBank founder Masayoshi Son said building data centers in space is not the way to win the AI race.
He made the comments at SoftBank's shareholder meeting in Tokyo on Tuesday.
Son said electricity is only a small share of data center costs. Most of the cost is hardware like chips.
Any savings from space would be lost to launch, maintenance and communication delays.
"He who strikes first wins," he said.
Son still called Elon Musk "a remarkable agent of change."
SoftBank has committed about $65 billion to OpenAI. SpaceX has FCC filings to launch up to 1 million orbital data center satellites.
@kangminlee Hmm. On the surface matter.
