This is the kind of story that reminds you just how cruel life can become when poverty, sickness and helplessness collide.

Some people are heartless and inhuman.

Others are simply corrupt and rotten to the core.

But sometimes, in the middle of all that darkness, you meet people who restore your faith in humanity.

If you think you are having a bad time in this life, perhaps you have never met a mother of four who fell sick, could not pay rent for two months, and watched a landlord throw everything she owned onto the street before locking the door.

Her children had nowhere to sleep.

Her Grade 10 daughter at St. Faustina Kerugoya Girls had not reported to school this term because of fee arrears.

The message was simple and devastating: no money, no school.

Her other child, a Grade 6 pupil, was also sleeping outside.

Yet every morning, he had to wake up early, dust himself off and go sit for his exams as though everything at home was normal.

The two youngest ones are still too young to understand the cruelty of poverty.

They laugh.
They play.
They find joy in the smallest things, even while sleeping in the cold.

Seven agonising days.

Seven nights without a proper home.

Seven days of neighbours occasionally giving them something to eat because they had nothing.

And through all this, their mother kept praying.

She didn't curse God. She didn't give up. She prayed.

Today, I was coming here to plead with you to help me get her daughter back to school, raise one month's rent and, if possible, help her find work so she could stand on her own feet again.

But God had already gone ahead of us.

Ambassador John CW heard about this family's situation and responded.

He has cleared the girl's school fees and paid two months' rent for her mother.

Sometimes you meet a person and genuinely don't know what words are big enough to say thank you.

Ambassador John CW, son of the Most High and descendant of Abraham, I honestly cannot thank you enough.

You didn't make a speech.

You didn't ask for recognition.

You saw a mother in distress and children sleeping outside, and you acted.

That is leadership.

That is service.

That is humanity.

May God replenish what you have given, protect you and your family, and continue using you to be a blessing to people who have nowhere else to turn.

You came at the right time, when this family needed help most.
