Sawyer Cooney (@CooneySawyer) was lights out this year.
In addition to having 90-94 in his arsenal, we altered the usage rates just a touch, favoring the offerings that were 1) showing the ability to land in-zone early or behind in counts and 2) able to create chase when in advantage counts.
One of the simple changes we made with the Split: Pre-Setting it, allowing for him to find the comfortability in the grip before stepping on the rubber.
With how in-zone Sawyer has been (65.93%) and how often he’s getting ahead of hitters (66.46%), Sawyer’s been THAT dude for the rotation this year.
Over 40 Innings Pitched this spring:
43% K-Rate
7.9% BB-Rate
38.93% CSW
1.26 ERA
🤯🤯🤯
It’s an understatement to say that @XavierBASE is getting a good one 📈
Introducing the most underrated High School pitching staff in the state of Michigan:
The Bloomfield Hills Blackhawks (@Blackhawksbase2)
As the regular season concludes and we shift our focus to the state playoffs, it’s time to share the philosophy implemented and the result of doing so.
The Process: Simply that - The process. When I took the Pitching Coach job for the ‘25 season, I set out to implement Key Performance Indicators (KPI) that reflected strictly things within our control. This included:
• First Pitch Strike%
• Advantage Count% (0-2, 1-2, or AB over)
• BB%
As I said many times throughout the year, take care of the first two, the third takes care of itself.
Where did we set the bar and how did we perform?
FPS% - 60% (59.6%)
AC% - 65% (69.2%)
BB% - 12.5% (12.92%)
Feel it’s important to note that I did not mention ERA at any point this season. If we took care of the controllables, that number would take care of itself - It sure did.
The result, as an entire staff, of dialing in the focus on controlling what we can:
IP: 197
BAA: .194
ERA: 2.84
K%: 27.5%
I’d like to take the time to dive into our starting rotation, as they’ve set the table for the team and continuously put us in positions to win baseball games.
A Thread - featuring @CooneySawyer, @hunterfarbman, & @TylerMarx16
🧵🧵🧵
Hunter Farbman (@hunterfarbman) has a high-slot release, allowing for so many possibilities in his arsenal.
Playing with VAA and effectiveness, manipulating and adding weapons that aren’t traditional for his slot, Hunter has become really effective and unpredictable.
He’s consistently shown the ability to put the hitter in the disadvantageous position, eclipsing a 70% rate for getting to advantage counts. As you may imagine, this really opens up what he can do with his arsenal.
As a Junior in High School, he’s been exposed to a lot of high-level concepts and taken to them well. He’s also shown the ability to do things most guys his age cannot, posting a 30% K-Rate, a 33.59% CSW, and a .165 BAA.
Pretty Insane 🤯🤯
Uncommitted, Hunter will be a steal and an early contributor at the collegiate level, especially as he continues to progress and develop.
I am excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Kalamazoo valley cc.I would like to thank my family, teammates, coaches and god for contributing to my success in my journey and getting me to the next level.Go cougars! @DSusanc@KVCC_Baseball
Unbelievable outing from @CooneySawyer yesterday! He threw a no hitter and his fastball was up to 95mph numerous times! He is a sleeper to watch for the draft this summer. He is starting to generate buzz amongst the scouts and has gotten off to a dominant start!
Thanks to all the coaches who followed the SOA Manz team the last two years. 11 of our boys were fortunate to continue on in college.
There is a great crop of 26/27 talent on this years SOA 16u McMullen team that would be great additions for your programs.
