I finally finished reading the first chapter after I took a small break. there are quite a lot of characters my brain doesn’t recognize so I trip over them while reading. sometimes I just guess based on the parts of the character, but that doesn’t help with understanding

but here I’m only on page 4 and told myself I’d get through a chapter. maybe it’s just frustration for reading to a point and then stopping because I don’t recognize the character and have to look it up to understand how to pronounce and what it means. its a slow learning process

trying to read 苏菲的世界 since I’ve read the English version about 3 times. and I remember why I kept putting it off before. the first chapter has 9 pages. the pages probably average about 450-550 characters per page? I’m on page 4 and have been reading for an hour and half.

this seems silly. but for english books I can read say... 100 pages in an hour? unless you want me to pour over the book word for word and analyze it and whatnot to writing a paper or something. that takes the fun out of reading.
