🇺🇸 There was a time when a government decided when you found out its soldiers had died. That time is ending.
When Iranian ballistic missiles hit Jordan's Muwaffaq al-Salti Air Base last Friday, killing 3 U.S. service members, the official timeline ran its usual course.
CENTCOM confirmed the deaths, then said it would withhold details out of respect for the families until next of kin were notified.
The internet did not wait.
Within hours, people were pulling up NASA's FIRMS satellite system, a free public tool that detects fires and thermal anomalies anywhere on earth, and pointing to hotspots at the exact base.
Contractors and troops on the ground filmed the incoming missiles on their phones.
Commercial satellite firms like Solar Atlas later published imagery showing struck hangars, destroyed shelters, and a direct hit on the troop housing area.
None of that came from a briefing room, all of it was public. This is the new shape of war reporting.
Tools built for wildfires and civilian mapping now double as independent conflict monitors, and they answer to no press office.
Bellingcat has spent years documenting how the same NASA fire data tracks front lines in Ukraine and strikes deep inside Russia, often lighting up before any official says a word.
The old model gave governments a window: time to notify families, shape the framing, decide what the public got told and when. That window is now closing.
The strike still happens and the losses are still real. The only thing that's changed is that the state no longer gets to be the first, or the only, source telling you about them.

🇮🇷🇺🇸 Iran is releasing the satellite images Trump wants to hide
Backing up their claims of strikes on major U.S facilities in the Gulf, Tehran shared before-and-after images of Erbil International Airport in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region.
They claim the structure they obliterated was a facility housing an aerostat, used for continuous intel, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions.
No confirmation from the U.S yet, but the images appear to back up the claims that Iran is hitting U.S facilities hard
