It is about highlighting ability, not disability.
It’s about highlighting community, not just competition.

The Conway Police Department has been a proud supporter of @SOArkansas for many years. We always do our best to participate in local sporting events, help with fundraising, and interact with athletes any opportunity we get.
This year, CPD received an earned torch for being one of the leading fundraising agencies in the State of Arkansas. The torch signifies the “Flame of Hope,” which is carried by law enforcement officers and athletes into the opening ceremonies of local competitions, state, national, and world games. As “Guardians of the Flame,” it is truly an honor to receive our very own torch, as it is a symbol of power and vision of Special Olympics to bring more attention and participation to people with intellectual and multiple disabilities.
“Special Olympics is one of the most rewarding parts of my career,” said Officer Anna Hilburn. “Initially, it was about giving back and being a part of a community, but the more involved I became, the more it was about warming my heart and receiving love from the Special Olympics family.”
You may have seen Officer Hilburn on our social media lately. She is one of our new canine officers and her dog’s name is Torch. The name “Torch” was actually chosen to represent the Law Enforcement Torch Run for
Special Olympics Arkansas which CPD participates in each year. It symbolizes Officer Hilburn’s commitment to raising awareness for the organization.
“K9 has been a life goal of mine,” said Officer Hilburn. “Achieving this position means more to me than I’ll ever be able to express. So, I wanted to name my dog something that was equally close to my heart.”
Our agency is very lucky to be as involved with as we are with Special Olympics Arkansas. The positivity and inclusivity of this organization is truly incredible, and we are so thankful for the relationship we have built with them.
