There is strong evidence that MLB either changed the baseballs or introduced a new batch of baseballs (while still cycling out the old) in late May / early June

Almost every contact-quality-controlled Statcast metric has seen an outlier uptick in recent weeks

Barrel distance increased by +10.2 ft from April 2026 to present, the biggest in-season April to June jump of the Statcast era (avg is +4.6 ft as weather improves)

The additional ~6 ft this June aligns with the ~0.016 point drop in the drag data

The Reds are calling up reliever Tejay Antone.

He’s believed to be the third pitcher to make it back to the big leagues after three Tommy John’s. It’ll be his first big league game since April of 2024.

“I was going to retire,” Antone said about having the third surgery. “I was going to hang it up and move on. I don’t think anyone would have thought anything of it. I had three elbow surgeries in professional baseball. I told my wife I want to retire, move on and become a coach.”

But, “This is where I’m supposed to be.”

He’s writing a book about this journey. One of the best comebacks you’ll see. He earned his way back by pitching well. In spring training, he looked like a pitcher who could help the Reds this year. He has backed that up.
