Here are my thoughts on JJ McCarthy:
I think his failure in Minnesota says more about the Vikings organization and Kevin O'Connell than it does JJ.
He was never ready to be handed the keys to an NFL franchise. It's not his fault the Vikings drafted him 10th overall and let Sam Darnold walk, especially with a team that's built to win now.
Anyone who watched Michigan could tell you he wasn't that good. My mock had him as a 3rd rounder. The handoff merchant allegations are spot on. Michigan was built to win a Championship. They had an excellent running game and solid defense. JJ just needed to be a game manager - he was the perfect fit for that team.
It takes time to develop QB's in the NFL. I think giving up on a guy after 10 starts is insane. If the rumors are true that KOC never wanted him, then fine. But KOC is supposed to be a QB guru, and I'm starting to think he might be a fraud.
I'm not even a JJ guy, but the circumstances now have me rooting for him. It would be hilarious if Matt Nagy can make an offense work around him but KOC couldn't. I can't believe I'm saying this but...I kind of want to see it happen.
The #Vikings have traded QB J.J. McCarthy to the Giants in exchange for a 5th-round pick.
The completion of this trade is pending McCarthy passing a physical.
