BREAKING: U.S. Soccer has presented USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino a proposal to extend for a second World Cup cycle, running until 2030.
Conversations have been ongoing for several months but any decisions will be made after the 2026 World Cup finishes.

BREAKING: The United States ould consider making a bid to host the men's 2038 World Cup.
FIFA is considering expanding the format even further to 64 teams as early as 2030.
Andrew Giuliani, executive director of the White House Task Force on the 2026 FIFA World Cup, had this to say:
"When you think that this World Cup may at some point expand out to 64 teams, I think the United States can handle it.
"Let me make sure we get through this World Cup before we make our pitch for 2038 or other ones."
The 2038 World Cup is the next one for which a bidding process will take place.
The wildest thing on that list is Germany not being able to get a clean sheet. WTF is wrong with them? Super confidence not good for defending? Too many sausages bad for the second half? Beer brain?
Streaks that could be broken in the R32:
USA 🇺🇸 hasn't beaten a UEFA team in 12 games
Brazil 🇧🇷 has never lost to an AFC team
Netherlands 🇳🇱 hasn't lost in 90 mins since 2006
Germany 🇩🇪 hasn't kept a clean sheet since 2014
Mexico 🇲🇽 hasn't lost a competitive game at home since 2013
Switzerland 🇨🇭 hasn't won a knockout game since 1938
Spain 🇪🇸 hasn't won a knockout game since 2010
🇿🇦🇨🇦🇨🇮🇯🇵🇧🇦🇪🇨🇦🇺 have never won a knockout game
What else am I missing?
Nah, its not what the World Cup is about. There are many regions of the world that can do it just as well, or better, more interesting. I rather see Korea-Japan again, France, Germany, UK, North Africa, China, etc... before it happens in the US again.
It's kind of true, american sports are designed for the first 90% of the match to be irrelevant, then the last 10% of it to last an hour with ads, and then explode in the end. They don't like it when they don't feel manipulated towards some kind of scripted ending.
Soccer will never be popular in America.
What we’re seeing with the World Cup is a fad. Within months we will be addicted to the NFL again.
Here’s why:
- Soccer isn’t violent enough.
- There’s way too much whining which goes against the American DNA.
- The refs and rules seem incredibly arbitrary.
- It’s in American to have a sports game end in a draw. It’s just wrong.
- Hard to monetize. TV ads are nonexistent. I actually like this element but our American economy does not.
- Did I mention there’s too much whining and faked injuries?
Basically, what I’m saying is that soccer is a pretty wimpy sport. You can hate me for saying this but you know it’s the truth.
I will continue enjoying the World Cup but we all know what happens next.
Back to normal life!
@CB11340 The only correction is the heat. Its gonna be nice and chill, considering its summer. When Mexico wanted to really win a match in the past we would schedule it for mid day on a work day, so the smog and the heat would demolish the opponent 😅, but by 7pm its nice and cool.
Altitude is a factor. Is just not as big as Xolos or Tigres visiting Toluca. Its a big factor training in Ohio for a month then going to play against Mexico training for 2 months in Mexico City.
Pues México vs Ecuador el martes en el Azteca... La altura no es factor y te toca un equipo ecuatoriano super motivados por ganarle a Alemania.
Sudáfrica va vs Canada y Corea seguramente vs Egipto... Que buen premio que salió ganar 3/3 en fase de grupos jajaja
@ElDanMan86 it is his job actually. and im not criticizing his job on the area, or his main job. ok. but they need to be in sync. He already caused a delay that cost us a corner kick... i think. I know a guy when he plays to save his ass when i see one, i dont like it. its all i got
But Ecuador is no cookie if Mexico is gonna just stand back, drag the ball around, Rangel wasting time all match long, dropping, faking injury. Thats not how you win in altitude. You up the tempo if you really have the advantage.

@ElDanMan86 thats the problem, all keepers are the same. they play for themselves, out of sync. They want the clean sheet, waste time if they have to get it, even if its the bad strategy, and want the penalty kicks, even if they have a better shot at regular time. But Tala seems even worse.
@ElDanMan86 It just his own style i hate, its selfish. If i was a coach the lowest effort thing i would fix on a team is to get the team and the keeper in sync. Nothing worse than a team wanting to break the tie and a keeper wasting time running the clock.
You got the altitude, come on.
He says it as if having a weak shallow roster is not important to predict the future. If anything the Mexico has a pretty even roster. No one really agrees on more than 5 starters for the team.
@FutIncorrecto@TheAthletic Lo de The Athletic ha sido vergonzoso. Su algoritmo ha sido un desastre calculando las probabilidades del rival de México desde hace ya varios días.
