Hey, @GovMikeKehoe! 👋 Have you read the job description? Per the MO constitution, it is your responsibility to call a special election for a vacant seat. HD-95 hasn’t had representation in 80+ days—-all of session.
If you aren’t the governor, call him. 👇
A very real world scenario of the consequences of the immigration provisions of Governor @GovMikeKehoe takeover of the St. Louis police department: A routine traffic stop turns into deportation.
Maria, a young woman with mixed immigration status, lives in St. Louis with her family. She is a DACA recipient who works as a teacher’s aide and has no criminal record. Her younger brother, a U.S. citizen, is in the car with her when she is pulled over for a minor traffic violation—failing to signal before a turn.
The officer, following the new law, asks for her ID and begins questioning her about her immigration status. Maria explains she has a valid work permit through DACA, but because officers aren’t fully trained on immigration law, the officer doesn’t understand what DACA is and flags her as an undocumented immigrant in their report.
The officer reports Maria’s information, including her immigration status, to the state as required by the law. This triggers a notification to federal immigration enforcement. Days later, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents show up at her workplace, detain her, and place her in deportation proceedings.
The Heartbreaking Truth:
This all started with a minor traffic stop—something that could happen to anyone. Maria wasn’t a danger to her community, yet this new law turned her into a target. The Missouri Republicans who passed the law claim it’s about “public safety,” but this story shows the devastating human cost of using local law enforcement to enforce harmful immigration policies. Not a matter of if but when. #MoLeg
We need a list of consultants who should be banned from working on campaigns. The level of extortion and grift is insane. Every candidate who runs as a Dem and their manager should get a memo of how much the standard rates for different services like mail, digital, TV, etc cost and if they are a certain percent above that rate there should be someone they can call to ask if they are getting ripped off.
