UToledo has officially joined the ranks of the nationโs top-tier research universities with the prestigious R1 classification!
This elite designation recognizes our very high research activity, fueled by millions in external awards and groundbreaking work in fields like astronomy, solar energy, water quality and sustainable technology. https://t.co/Mu4lu8I05Z
Achieving R1 status means more opportunities for students, faculty and our community โ advancing innovation, attracting top talent and driving research that changes lives.
Feel free to contact me with any questions at [email protected], though it's not required. I will review all applications listing me as a potential mentor and do not offer preferential treatment to those who reach out beforehand.
Top reasons to come to UToledo (per current grads):
1. Excellent opportunities for mentorship (and co-mentorship across labs)
2. The cost of living in Toledo is 30% below the national average- your stipend goes far!
(see more below)
The BeFed Lab is recruiting a new PhD student for Fall 2025. Please share with those interested in exploring risk factors underlying disordered eating.
Note we are now at the University of Toledo!
3. Comradery amongst grads- a perk of being in a less exciting city & all students having on-campus offices
4. Toledo is close to Ann Arbor and Detroit if you want/need to live in a larger city
5. Toledo has a beautiful Metropark system!
๐ข I'm happy to announce that I'll be reviewing applications for the University of Toledo's Clinical Psychology PhD program this cycle for admission in fall 2025!
Please share with anyone interested in studying environmental risk factors for eating disorders! ๐
Given the high endorsement of intermittent fasting (IF) in an undergraduate sample, more work is needed to understand who is at highest risk for disordered eating when engaging in IF. (2/2)
New paper from the @BeFedlab! 25% of undergraduates endorsed intermittent fasting (IF). Doc student, Francois Ban found IF is linked to higher disordered eating, with impulse control difficulties (weakly) moderating this relationship. (1/2)

Reminder that the @ARISElabMSU is recruiting for its community advisory board. Priority application deadline is Monday, October 7th. We are especially interested in representation from members of communities that have been excluded from eating disorder research!
Academic Twitter: Any advice for dealing with a paper that's been under review at a journal for an extended period?
The first author is a post-bacc planning to apply to grad school this round. The paper was submitted in Sept. 2023. Reviews were completed in June 2024. (1/3)
...but I worry I'm doing the student a disservice by not pulling the paper and re-submitting it elsewhere.
Is 11 months under review typical these days? Any advice is welcome! (3/3)
I've messaged through the platform 3x over the last 7 months. Responses are generic ("high submission volume, please be patient")
I've never pulled a paper. I don't want the reviewers' work to be lost, or to start over at a new journal... (2/3)
We are delighted to announce a Professional Development Series in June geared towards members of our SIG. We have events for people looking into graduate school, students wondering about clinical internship, and folks applying for postdocs/jobs. More details in the flyer!
UPDATE ๐ข: I'm happy to share that I recently accepted a tenure-track faculty position at the University of Toledo starting in fall 2024. While I am sad to leave Montclair State, my husband and I are excited to move much closer to our family in our home state of Michigan!
This news feels bittersweet as I've truly valued my time at Montclair State and worked with incredible faculty and students
Fortunately, I will be moving the @BefedLab to UToledo and I will mentor students through their Clinical Psych PhD program (likelyย starting in Fall 2025๐)
