this is actually insane… imagine the outrage if this post were about almost any other country. but look at the comments, people are just mocking argentina’s currency and saying they shouldn’t care so much about football.

i once had a european coworker complain to me about a refugee girl she knew who was going to a concert. she said “the government isn’t giving you money so you can go to concerts!” and i was honestly stunned. that kind of deeply ingrained sense of superiority is genuinely disturbing to me. people always seem to have this rigid idea of how people outside of europe and north america are supposed to behave, they’re not allowed to enjoy themselves, they’re not allowed to take pride in anything, they’re supposed to remain visibly miserable and grateful at all times. because the second they experience joy or show pride, somehow it threatens that last little bit of superiority you’ve built for yourself.
