A poem from Charles Bukowski's "On Cats", published posthumously, 21 years after his passing in 1994.
My Cats
I know. I know.
they are limited, have different
needs and
concerns.
but I watch and learn from them.
I like the little they know,
which is so
much.
they complain but never
worry,
they walk with a surprising dignity.
they sleep with a direct simplicity that
humans just can't
understand.
their eyes are more
beautiful than our eyes.
and they can sleep 20 hours
a day
without
hesitation or
remorse.
when I am feeling
low
all I have to do is
watch my cats
and my
courage
returns.
I study these
creatures.
they are my
teachers.

Neil the Seal, the internet's favorite 5-year-old southern elephant seal, is back.
He has spent his vacation growing into a massive 1,000-kilogram (one-tonne) subadult and he is currently treating Tasmanian infrastructure like his personal playground.
My people in the Philippines have been getting fucking battered with super typhoons for years, too. Drowning and towns submerged — people losing everything, including my older brother and his family from Typhoon Ondoy/Ketsana in 2009.
mind you we were already at risk of a global increase of 2°C pre pandemic, pre isr*el’s most recent slew of bombings, and pre ai. we have accelerated in the most extreme possible way and genuinely need to take drastic action and no one is treating this with the severity it needs
On March 26, 2026, during a debate on violence against women in Germany’s Bundestag, left-wing MP Kathrin Gebel was repeatedly interrupted by AfD MP Martin Reichardt. She responded:
“Mr. Reichardt, the clitoris has 3,000 nerve endings, and you’re still more sensitive. That’s quite an achievement.”
Scheiße. This is Rhineland wheat now, after five days of high heat; the normal harvest time is the end of July. The heat has stopped the growth weeks prematurely, so the crop will be stunted *at best*.
Climate Crisis is a food crisis, people are soon going to realize.
It’s crazy to think I’m gonna live through the greatest extinction event our planet has witnessed in millions of years* & it will be the fault of 30 billionaires who brain damaged themselves into believing they don’t need the other 7 billion of us
*or die in it, who knows
Some confirmation from someone on the inside that these data centers are actually mass surveillance centers (and once again, that they use Palestinians as guinea pigs for what they will do to us. I know a lot of you fucks only care when something start to threaten you personally)
I think we’re fucked. People are too stupid and the whole media is just unable to tell the truth. They literally think they know more than scientists who’ve studied it for decades. It feels hopeless. Stupidity won. Extreme suffering incoming.
The example that stands out to me are the Brontë sisters, who all died young of easily preventable disease. A famous middle-class family just died off, and it wasn't regarded then as anything at all unusual. Likewise feels like every 2nd Dostoevsky character has tuberculosis.
Well, well....economists have pulled their heads out of the sand and realised that extreme heat will have a big impact on economies
Climate scientists, and others, have been saying this for decades
There's a reason economics is called the dismal science

"White people were, and are, astounded by the Holocaust in Germany. They did not know that they could act that way. But, I very much doubt whether Black people were astounded."
- James Baldwin, 1962
