Hello everyone, small correction on the drone call this Saturday in terms of the date and the graph.
This Saturday, May 16, we will have the pleasure of welcoming Sören Haar onto our weekly drone call. His experiences and expertise in European Union politics and promoting Ukraine within that framework are crucial to understanding how the European defense sector interacts with EU politics and how we can engage with EU politics.
If you would like access to this and calls with other prestigious speakers, check our website to see the many things our volunteer organization does for Ukraine, and apply to join our rapidly growing family of engineers, project managers, developers, operators, and many others.

Finally it‘s over. 16 years of „illiberal democracy“, corruption and pro-Russian advocacy come to an end. Congrats to all Hungarians who chose a European and democratic country today! 👍❤️👏🇹🇯🇪🇺
John Bolton: Our biggest mistake in the 1990s and during the Bush administration was leaving Ukraine, Moldova, and Belarus in a gray zone - not pushing harder for their eventual NATO membership.
Eastern and Central Europeans were begging for protection from Russia. We expanded NATO but left a dangerous gap that Russia quickly exploited.
In 2008, Bush tried to fast-track Ukraine and Georgia into NATO, but France and Germany blocked it.
Ukraine is an incredibly rich and powerful country that is striving to become truly European and Western - while rejecting Vladimir Putin’s aggressive nationalism.
President Stubb:
I think you [Ukraine] are winning this war, and the reason I say this is that Putin has failed strategically.
He wanted to make Ukraine Russian. It became European. He wanted to prevent the enlargement of NATO. He got Finland and Sweden. He wanted to keep our defense expenditure down, and it's now going up to 5%.
Secondly, he's losing on the military front. When the war began, Russia acquired 12% of Ukrainian territory. That's 12 years ago. Since then, 8%. In the past two years, 1%.
In December, Ukraine was able to kill 34,000 Russian soldiers. They were not able to recruit back. Just keep on what you're doing, and at the end of the day, you will prevail and win this war.
Magyar: My colleague and future Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary.
Anita Orban: introduces herself.
Magyar: the name is only a coincidence.
Tusk: My name is Donald.
“One thing’s for certain. No matter where you are around the globe, energy will be central to the next stage of the AI revolution,” says CFR energy and climate expert @vsiv.
Returning from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Sivaram unpacks two risks and one opportunity at the intersection of energy and AI.
Kaja Kallas:
In the last 100 years, Russia has attacked at least 19 countries, some as many as three or four times. None of those countries has ever attacked Russia.
So, the question is how we make sure that this war does not continue or go anywhere else. We need to see concessions on the Russian side - limitations on their military budget, their army, or nuclear weapons - to take this threat away, plus the accountability for the crimes that they have committed.
‼️🇺🇸 🇪🇺🇺🇦 BREAKING - "The US is significantly increasing its arms supplies to Ukraine before Christmas, but at the same time, Europe is preparing for the period after 2027 for a NATO without Washington" - KYIV post
📌 The US has warned its European allies: after 2027, they will no longer be the main suppliers of NATO's conventional forces. Until then, arms supplies to Ukraine will continue as usual and will even increase before Christmas.
🔸 NATO will reduce the number of American high-ranking officers in Europe and their positions will be taken over by Europeans. The SACEUR (Supreme Allied Commander Europe) will remain an American.
🔸 The Pentagon is expecting a concrete commitment from Europe that the continent is ready to take on defense responsibilities and develop its own capabilities.

Europe must stop waiting for signals from Washington and take the initiative in Ukraine.
Paper guarantees mean nothing to Putin. Only concrete commitments matter.
That’s why I now call for Europe to deploy up to 20,000 troops behind Ukraine’s front lines, establish an air shield with around 150 combat aircraft, and unlock frozen Russian assets.
Europe earns its seat at the table by bringing real capability, not by asking for permission.

The Forum will bring together around 70 participants from EU institutions and Member States, Indo-Pacific countries and regional organisations from across the east coast of Africa to the Pacific island states.
It will reaffirm the EU’s commitment to a free, open and rules-based regional order, and to strengthening cooperation on trade, technology, and the protection of critical supply chains.

Putin wird Trumps Amtszeit nutzen, um die NATO zu testen. In wenigen Jahren könnte Russland großräumig Krieg führen. Europa steht im Wettlauf mit der Zeit und muss jetzt sehr, sehr schnell handeln, um Stabilität und Souveränität zu sichern.
This is what’s left of the Ukrainian city of Vovchansk by now.
Not that long ago, this was a blooming cozy Ukrainian city at the Russian border.
Population in 2025: 0.
How is this different from the effects of the use of nuclear weapons against a European democracy?
#MSPO2025 is one of the most important places where actors and innovators come together. I am grateful for all the insights and fascinating conversations this week in Poland. And looking forward to staying in touch!
