In Greek mythology, Prometheus was the Titan who defied the king of the gods to give one of humanity's greatest gifts: fire. His act of rebellion made him one of the most celebrated heroes in Greek legend, but it also condemned him to one of mythology's most brutal punishments.

Prometheus belonged to the race of Titans, the powerful beings who ruled before the Olympian gods led by Zeus.

Although he was born a Titan, Prometheus sided with the Olympians during their war against his own kind after concluding that Zeus would ultimately prevail. His intelligence and foresight helped secure the Olympians' victory.

After the war, Prometheus became humanity's greatest champion. Greek myths credit him with creating humans from clay and repeatedly protecting them from Zeus' anger.

In one famous story, he tricked Zeus into accepting the bones and fat of sacrificed animals while allowing humans to keep the meat, establishing the traditional form of animal sacrifice in Greek religion.

Furious at the deception, Zeus punished humanity by taking away fire, forcing people to live in darkness, eat uncooked food, and endure the cold. Refusing to accept their suffering, Prometheus secretly stole fire from Mount Olympus, hiding the divine flame inside a hollow fennel stalk before delivering it to mankind.

Fire allowed humans to cook food, forge metal, create tools, and build civilizations, making Prometheus a symbol of knowledge and progress.

Zeus responded with severe vengeance. According to the myth, he sent Pandora to Earth with a sealed jar, later popularly called Pandora's Box. When it was opened, disease, suffering, old age, and countless other evils spread across the world, leaving only hope behind.

Prometheus himself received an even harsher punishment. Zeus ordered him chained to a rock high in the Caucasus Mountains, where each day a giant eagle descended to tear out and devour his liver.

Because Prometheus was immortal, the organ regenerated every night, allowing the torment to begin the following day again. His suffering continued for ages until the hero Heracles eventually slew the eagle and freed him.

The Rosetta Stone is one of the most important archaeological discoveries ever made. Carved from granodiorite, it bears the same decree written in three different scripts: Egyptian hieroglyphs, Demotic, and Ancient Greek. This unique combination ultimately unlocked the ability to read a writing system that had been lost for nearly 1,500 years.

By the fourth century CE, the knowledge of how to read hieroglyphs had disappeared. Ancient Egyptian temples had closed, the language had evolved, and scholars could no longer understand the inscriptions covering Egypt's monuments and tombs. For centuries, the meaning of these mysterious symbols remained a puzzle.

Everything changed in 1799 during Napoleon Bonaparte's campaign in Egypt. While strengthening a fort near the town of el-Rashid, known to Europeans as Rosetta, French officer Pierre-François Bouchard discovered a broken stone slab covered in three different scripts. Realizing its potential importance, scholars quickly recognized that the Greek text might provide the key to deciphering the other two.

When British forces defeated the French in Egypt, the Rosetta Stone was transferred to British ownership under the 1801 Treaty of Alexandria and eventually taken to London, where it remains today in the British Museum.

The breakthrough came in 1822 when French scholar Jean-François Champollion successfully deciphered Egyptian hieroglyphs by comparing the Greek and Egyptian texts. His work opened the door to translating thousands of inscriptions that had been silent for centuries, transforming the study of ancient Egypt.

36-year-old Safford James Wolfson, who identifies as female, was arrested on suspicion of the m—rder of Angela Caprioli. The 61-year-old woman was found dead at her home in Laguna Beach on July 20.

The suspect formerly worked at Spin magazine, according to his Linkedin. He attended the private liberal arts college Pitzer College.

Multiple trans people have been arrested over the m—rders of their parents in just the last couple of years. In extreme trans ideology, parricide — killing one's own mother or father — is often a recurring theme.
